WHAT IS VESTIBULAR THERAPY?

Ever have the sensation that the room is spinning? Worried about staying up right because of feeling off balance? If you are dizzy, it may be because you have an inner ear (or vestibular) disorder. You are not alone, more than 1 in 3 adults over the age of 40 will have some degree of vestibular dysfunction. At Endurance Physio, we are lucky to have Erin Williams, DTP, who specializes in vestibular rehabilitation focused around improving/ lessening dizziness, and thoroughly assessing potential balance problems.

There are 3 primary systems in the body that contribute to maintaining balance: vision, somatosensory/ proprioception, and the vestibular system. A major contributor to your balance comes from your inner ear which senses and detects movement.

Vestibular rehabilitation is focused on reducing vertigo, dizziness, instability, and falls through exercise. If necessary, our therapists will use infrared goggles, for examination of the vestibular ocular reflex for thorough evaluation to rule in/ out potential problems.
